Digital Marketing For Attorneys In 2019
How Attorneys Succeed With Digital Marketing
Written by Orlando Masis on Nov. 10th 2018
Here I am, getting so close to 2019 another year gone and another one rapidly approaching. Never did I think I would end up here helping attorneys with their digital marketing campaigns.
I'm going to tell you a quick story about my early experiences in marketing as a loan officer, many years ago... I remember this like it was yesterday. I was 23 then, just fresh out of school, recently married and I wanted it all.
My first job was as a loan officer at a small family owned hard money lender. With the enthusiasm of a young buck I started researching and learning everything I could about self-improvement, sales, and marketing.
Everything I could get my hands on to improve my skills and knowledge of the industry. This time I wanted to learn and understand about all the parts of the business, so I started to find out more about how it all worked.
Time To Learn
By this time, I thought I had it all figured out, so I ventured on my own. This is when I really started to learn about marketing and advertising. Somehow, some way I was able to make my first few ads profitable, these were print ads, mind you, then I started working on direct mailing campaigns and they also worked.
Digital marketing didn't exist back then. No websites, no landing pages, no sales funnels, no keyword research, no Google AdWords, no SEO.
The Internet as we know it had not been born.
All major marketing and advertising back then could cost you tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars before you would see any results.
The Gulf War Hit
I was excited, I was getting my first taste of real money and then, Bam! Out of nowhere, the Gulf War. My entire little Enterprise came to a halt. I remember literally, being glued to the TV screen like many millions of Americans trying to figure out what was going to happen. Fortunately, I had made many contacts at different banks, so I started to put out the feelers to see if anyone would hire me.
I just didn’t have enough capital then to see me through the slow period and keep my business open. I had no choice.
After reaching out to several people, I finally made it!
I got in with a medium size Thrift & Loan with a very hard to sell product line which I wasn’t aware of at the time.
I clearly remember to this day my first meeting with my manager, it was scary to say the least.
First words out of his mouth were these: You’re on a 90-day, provisionary period, You Must get one loan in or you’re done. I was like, what is this guy talking about? One loan, that’s it? In 90 days? In my mind I was laughing, “piece of cake” I thought. Little did I know about how difficult that was going to be.
Some days went by (maybe weeks), and I was getting frustrated, nothing was happening. Then it finally hit me.
I started to pay close attention to what the top dogs in the company were doing to get clients.
I started to mirror them, what they wore, what they said, how they said it, I asked some questions (not many, so I wouldn’t make them suspicious), and it worked.
The 80/20 Rule
This is when I learned about the 80/20 rule. If you haven't already heard about the 80/20 rule, here it is:
The rule states essentially that 80% of everything you accomplish is because of 20% of your efforts and the other 20% because of the 80% of your efforts, or similarly, 80% of sales get closed by 20% of your sales force and the other way around.
When you pay real close attention you start to see that the 80/20 rule exists everywhere and applies to everything. I stayed there for a couple of years until I got more knowledge under my belt and the courage to venture on my own again.
That was the beginning of everything. From that point on I understood if you wanted to succeed at anything, you must watch and learn from those who have been on the same path as you.
They have been knocked down, but persisted and succeeded, the ones we all call “Experts”. They will either teach you directly or indirectly.
Because of this experience in my life, I went on to create a couple of successful businesses and learned about advertising for marketing our services successfully. This also led to helping our clients increase their ROI and profitability.
Sometimes we all need someone to see things in our businesses we don't see for ourselves.
The Internet Is Born
The advent of the Internet has definitely changed the field in which we all play today. My life experience has served me well, in the form of being able to put myself in others shoes, ie., being able to ask the questions they ask, and becoming essentially more inquisitive and intuitive at the same time.
Digital marketing, is a lot more scientific now than it has ever been and for attorneys, it's a game changer. You can research keywords your specific audience is searching for. You can literally pinpoint target the people you want to reach out to and have them find out about your business with less effort than ever before.
With everything we do here, we can literally double your website traffic overnight and we can build a profitable ad campaign today, from scratch.
What is Digital marketing? Wikipedia defines Digital marketing as “the marketing of products or services using digital technologies, mainly on the Internet, but also including mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital medium.”
Real business and life experience make a huge difference on the implementation of digital marketing for your business, specially as attorneys, as it gives you a better perspective on the specific niche you’re serving. Without this experience, you cannot communicate with your audience successfully.
Resonating With Your Audience
Let me make this a little bit clearer for you.
Let's say you're a divorce lawyer, you will be able to most likely resonate with your audience a lot better if you've experienced divorce personally.
No, no, I'm not saying that you need to go out and get divorced right now to become a better lawyer.
There's a better way to gain this insight: "repetition", i.e., the number of divorce cases you've handled since the beginning of your career.
Let me tell you about something much better. Google, there you will find anything and everything you need to resonate with the niche you want.
Like my initial experience straight out of school was, I was still learning. But as time progressed, I became aware of all the intricacies of the business.
Digital marketing for attorneys, is not something you can start doing without the appropriate experience, research or testing.
Many have found out the hard way, and lost great sums of money and have just given up entirely on the idea.
The real beauty of it though, is that you can find out real fast and real cheap how an actual campaign is going to turn out, by constantly testing all its parts: Landing pages, copy, images, funnels, lead capture, automation, etc.
If you want to learn more about the anatomy of a digital marketing campaign for attorneys, here's an article that you will find interesting...  Law Firm Marketing or you can also watch the free video training now.
